Welcome to Your Voicemail Assignment!
This assignment is designed to test your spoken English skills in various real-life scenarios. Here's how to complete your assignment:
- Preparation: Find somewhere quiet where you won't be disturbed for 25 minutes. Background noise will make the voicemail harder to understand. The app works on phones and laptops, but the sound quality seems to be better on phones.
- Registration: Enter your email address and matriculation number and press the OK button.
- Prompt: After about ten seconds a random scenario will be presented to you as a description and a prompt. Where the scenario description and the prompt contradict each other, respond to the prompt.
- First Response: Think about how you would respond in this situation and record your voicemail. Be clear, concise, and ensure your response is relevant to the scenario. Reflect the language (particularly the tense!) used in the prompt. Try to anticipate follow-up questions and provide information that may be wanted. You have ten minutes to respond.
- Wait for the reply: After a few seconds a transcript of your voicemail will appear. Don't worry if the transcript is innacurate, that's not part of your grade. A reply to your first message will then also appear.
- Submit Your Second (final) Response: Record your follow-up voicemail considering the virtual assistant's reply. This is your chance to show adaptability in your communication.
- Grading: Your first three attempts will be graded, and your grade will be based on your best attempt. Test-mode attempts do not count towards the total attempts.
Tips for Success:
- Speak clearly and at a moderate pace.
- Read the prompt carefully. Remember: the prompt is more important than the scenario description.
- Use formal language appropriate for a professional setting.
- Answer within ten minutes (both times)
- Focus on pronunciation and grammar.
- Be creative but relevant in your responses.
If you encounter any technical issues or have questions about the assignment, please do not hesitate to contact your instructor.
Good luck, and I look forward to hearing your responses!
